Five hours, fifteen guests, one grill, and the sunset watched from the open water off Akrotiri. This is the Santorini sunset cruise we would book ourselves — because we built it that way.
Why this one books out first
Why is the sunset catamaran cruise the one everyone books?
Because it stacks the whole island into one afternoon. A sunset on the Aegean would already be worth the seat — but before the light show starts, this Santorini sunset boat tour has sailed you round the full caldera loop: the rust-red water off Red Beach, the empty white cliffs of Mesa Pigadia, the volcano crossing beneath Fira's cliffs with Oia rising on the horizon, and the warm volcanic springs at Palea Kameni.
Then the working part of the day ends, dinner comes off the charcoal, an Assyrtiko goes into your glass, and we hold the open water off Akrotiri — Santorini's very edge. While five thousand people fight for a metre of castle wall in Oia, you're lying on a trampoline net with the horizon to yourselves. When the sun touches the sea, the cliffs behind you turn the colour this island is famous for — and you're inside the postcard, not photographing it.
It's a sunset cruise with dinner, a swim day, and the best of the caldera in one ticket. That's why it fills one to two weeks ahead in July and August.

Hotel pickup, island-wide
Our drivers collect you from your hotel or Airbnb — Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani, Kamari, Perissa, Akrotiri, Megalochori — and bring you to Vlychada Marina. Exact time confirmed the evening before.

Cast off from Vlychada
Welcome drink in hand as we clear the breakwater. Safety brief is two minutes; the crew handles everything else.

Red Beach
First anchor drop beneath the red lava cliffs. Snorkels out — visibility here is usually the best of the day.

White Beach & Mesa Pigadia
A short hop west to the pale cliffs you can only reach by boat. Quieter water, higher cliffs, colder beer.

Indian Rocks & the Venetian Lighthouse
We round Akrotiri point past the profile the locals call the Indian's face, under the 1892 lighthouse, and turn into the caldera itself.

The caldera crossing — volcano to port
Up the caldera's east side: the black lava island of Nea Kameni alongside, Fira, Skaros Rock and Imerovigli stacked 300 metres above, and Oia rising on the horizon just before we turn down the west side past Thirasia.

Volcano hot springs
Swim from the boat into the iron-rich springs at Palea Kameni — the water runs 30–35 °C where the vents rise. Dark swimsuit strongly advised; the minerals can tint light fabric.

Dinner off the grill, sailing south
The BBQ has been working since the springs. Dinner is served as we sail out of the caldera in the lowering light — chicken and shrimp off the coals, salad, dips, the good bread.

Hold position off Akrotiri
Engines quiet by the lighthouse at Santorini's very edge. Wine topped up. The sun goes down over open water in front of you — we stay until the colour finishes, then run home in the dusk.

Back at Vlychada, drivers waiting. Most guests are at their hotel by 21:00–21:30.

What to bring
- A dark swimsuit — the hot springs' sulphur and iron can stain light fabrics. Locals learned this the hard way; now you don't have to.
- Sunscreen (reef-friendly if you can) and a hat
- A light jacket or wrap — the ride home after sunset is breezy
- Camera or a full phone battery. You'll use it.
Leave the beach towels at the hotel — ours are on board. Barefoot is the dress code once we're off the dock.

The small print, in plain words
Weather policy — what if the wind picks up?
Santorini's port authority decides when the sea closes, not us. If they suspend sailings on your date, you choose a full refund or a free rebooking — no fees, no arguing. We message you as soon as the call is made, usually by early afternoon.
Are kids welcome?
Yes — children sail on all our cruises with life vests in kids' sizes on board, and under-12s pay a reduced rate. The sunset return is late for very small children; for toddlers the daytime cruise is usually the happier pick.
Vegetarian, vegan or allergies?
Tell us when you book and the grill adapts — halloumi and vegetable skewers, vegan mezze, gluten-free bread. The Greek salad, dips and sides already cover most preferences.
Where exactly is the pickup?
Door-to-door where the road allows; in the pedestrian cores of Oia and Fira we meet at the nearest driveable point and confirm the exact spot by WhatsApp the evening before, with the driver's name and plate.
I get seasick — will I suffer?
Catamarans are the steadiest hulls out here, and the sunset route hugs the caldera's sheltered water. Most self-declared seasick guests are fine; if you're worried, take a tablet an hour before departure and sit aft where the motion is smallest.

Where does the boat stop for the Santorini sunset?
On the open water off Akrotiri — Santorini's south-western edge, by the Venetian lighthouse — facing west with nothing between you and the horizon. The crowds queue on Oia's castle walls for the same sun; you get it from a deck, glass in hand.
What time do we get back?
Alongside at Vlychada around 20:30 depending on the month's sunset, hotel by about 21:00–21:30 with our drivers.
Is dinner really cooked on board?
Over charcoal, on the stern. Chicken fillet and shrimp, Greek salad, pasta in tomato sauce, vine leaf rolls, the dips — and the grill adapts for vegetarians with notice.
What if the weather cancels it?
Port-authority cancellation means you choose: full refund or free rebooking. We tell you as early as the call allows.
Good for a proposal?
Many have said yes on this deck. But honestly: for a proposal, take the private charter — same sunset, no audience, and we can stage champagne, flowers and a photographer.
