Act III · The crossing
One route, eight moments worth the ticket
Every cruise sails the same caldera loop — out of Vlychada, west along the south coast, round the lighthouse, in to the volcano and home again. This is the water we grew up on. Scroll to sail it.
01 — CAST OFF
Vlychada Marina
We cast off from Santorini's quiet south-coast marina — no cruise-ship queues, easy pickup from every village. The loop starts and ends here; the sea does the rest.
02 — SWIM & SNORKEL
Red Beach
Rust-red lava cliffs straight out of the water. We anchor off the beach where the snorkelling is clearest — masks and fins are already on board.
03 — SWIM STOP
White Beach
Reachable only by boat: pale pumice cliffs, glass-clear water, and usually nobody else. The quietest swim of the day.
04 — THE QUIET COAST
Akrotiri & Mesa Pigadia
The last stretch of the south coast before the caldera opens: high cliffs, deep blue water, and coves the road never found.
05 — SAIL-PAST
The Venetian Lighthouse, 1892
We round Santorini's south-west tip beneath the Venetian lighthouse of Akrotiri — the gate of the caldera, and the spot the sunset cruise comes back to.
06 — SWIM STOP
The volcano
Anchor beside the black lava coast and swim in the middle of the crater, in water hundreds of metres deep with the caldera walls standing all around you. This is the stop nobody forgets.
07 — PANORAMIC CALDERA
The caldera panorama & Fira Old Port
The whole crater opens around you — Fira, Firostefani and Imerovigli stacked three hundred metres above the old port and its cable car.
08 — WARM SWIM & HOME
The warm springs, weather permitting
Coming down the volcano's far side we take the warm, iron-rich springs whenever the wind and sea allow — a dark swimsuit is the wise call, the minerals adore a white one. Then bows south, wind behind us, home to Vlychada.
Act IV · On board
What's included on every boat trip
BBQ grilled on the stern while you swim
Chicken fillet and shrimp over real coals, with Greek salad, pasta in tomato sauce, vine leaf rolls and the dips we grew up on — tzatziki, fish roe, hummus, olive paste. Vegetarian? Tell us when you book and the grill adapts.
Santorini wine, cold beer, no counting
Local white wine, cold beer, soft drinks and water from the moment we clear the marina to the moment we tie up again. The volcanic Assyrtiko tastes best twenty metres from the vineyards' cliffs.
Snorkel three very different seas
Turquoise shallows at Red Beach, deep blue at Mesa Pigadia, and the crater itself at the volcano. Masks, fins and fresh towels are included — just bring the swimsuit.
Small groups, door-to-boat
A 44-foot Lagoon catamaran with two trampoline nets, shaded lounge and proper bathrooms — comfortable capacity for all, so everyone gets a corner. Pickup and drop-off at hotels and Airbnbs across Santorini: Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani, Kamari, Perissa, Akrotiri and Megalochori.
